ABOUT
Nothing can beat in person Russian lessons for many years. But if that is not an option, and it isn't for many, this program is designed to scale-down long term lessons into fun and easy to follow along videos so that Russian grammar can be more easily understood. It is recommended to have a copy of The Molokan Russian Grammar Book by Ivan D. Samarin and Barrons 501 Russian Verbs book. All with the goal in mind that we can understand more and more of the Russian used in the Bible, Spirit and Life, and in our services and we can hold onto our native language.
Origin
While trying to learn Russian grammar, Ds. Daniel George Samarin sought to find an easier, clearer way to learn and teach the language, as textbooks and college courses were sometimes all over the place and hard to follow, not to mention they were not geared towards Biblical terminology, so he figured out a way to lay out the language in all its grammar cases, and explain them plainly. After teaching one generation with this method, it passed down to another, and with some modifications, to another, and well, hopefully will continue. But these lessons were taught in small groups, and took several years to master, week after week. This truly is the only way to master a language and the grammar. But now, seeing that the language seems to be slipping from us, several elders inquired to see if a program or class like this can be widespread, where people can learn at their own pace and have a resource available at any time. This is where "mologram" came into being. A series of short, or relatively short, video that can help anyone who has a willing to learn better understand the language.
What Mologram does
Mologram, short for "molokan grammar", (a pun on the word hologram.. I know haha, bear with me) was designed in mind to help anyone who already knows the Russian alphabet and has a BASIC reading level, meaning you can follow along in a pesnik. It walks the student throught the 6 cases of Russian grammar, what they mean, when to use them, and how to understand context when they are used. It also will explain how to use and understand verbs properly. The student is expected to keep up a constant learning of vocabulary words on their own in order to put what is learned into use. Yes, this requires lots of studying and attention! Its goal is to help people have a grasp, or a better basic understanding of Russian in general. Like understanding the basics of how a car runs, or the basics of the human skeleton. This program is not intended to take the place of in-person lessons, nor explain all the details and exceptions of the language but expand the love of the language throughout our Molokan community so that we can hold on to our native language in our services and our lives.
